Gold chronometer watch made for the Islamic market

A very fine, large English 18K gold pocket chronometer with spring detent escapement, circa 1850. Made for the Islamic market, the case by Louis Comptesse, with London hallmarks. Hinged gold cuvette, gilt dust ring. Silver dial with foliate engraving, applied gold Islamic numerals and gold foliate outer border, subsidiary seconds. Blued steel fleur-de-lys hands.

Frosted gilt movement, half-plate, cylindrical pillars, fusee with chain and Harrison’s maintaining power, jeweled to the third wheel, Earnshaw chronometer escapement with spring footed detent, cut bimetallic compensation balance with platinum meantime and temperature adjustment screws, blued steel helical balance spring, diamond endstone, index regulator. Movement signed.
