Justin Vulliamy was a renowned Swiss-born watchmaker who lived in London. In 1730, he went into partnership with Benjamin Gray, who was a watchmaker for King George II. Justin married Gray’s daughter Mary and worked with him in his manufactory in Pall Mall, London. After Gray’s death in 1764, Justin took over the family business and primarily made precision pendulum clocks. His son Benjamin Vulliamy also became a watchmaker and took over the technical management of Vulliamy & Sons from 1775.
