A heavy 18 carat gold chronometer watch

An important and heavy English 18 carat gold pocket chronometer, chronometer watchmaker James Hatton London No.377, circa 1800/1851, especially for the movement made case with English hallmarks from 1851, matching number 377 on the case and movement, three solid gold lids, early English chronometer movement with spring detent escapement, helical hairspring, special bimetallic chronometer balance with trapezoidal and round weights, signed and numbered plate, original enamel dial signed and numbered, gold spade hands. James Hatton was a London chronometer watchmaker from 1799 to 1815. This chronometer pocket watch belongs to the earliest chronometer of James Hatton, which is extremely rare.

James Hatton (Clockmakers Company 1799-1815) is the apprentice and successor of George Margetts, James Hatton continued the business of George Margetts when he died. Margetts watch number 203 is signed Margetts on the movement and Margetts and Hatton on the dial.
George Margetts was losing his eyesight towards the end of his life; he died on 27 December 1804.
Later specially made case. In excellent condition.
