A fine English 18 carat gold open faced lever deck chronometer with 52,5 minute carrousel, circa 1901. Bonniksen style 2/3 plate carrousel movement, an English lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance. Off-white enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued spade & whip hands. The plain case with maker’s mark JR. Dial signed, case numbered, movement signed and numbered. Comes with an Extract from the chronometer Archives by Andreas Hidding.

The present chronometer was entered in 1901 for the Kew observatory competition in the Old Deer Park, Richmond and was tested in the category Kew – Class A.
Kew Observatory Certificate 86.6 Marks Especially Good.

This timepiece by Robert Milne is a very fine example of English precision watchmaking. Milne died in 1925. Its wearer always carries the Kew certificate of 86.6 points because it is engraved on the watch.
