A rare English silver pair cased verge pocket watch silver champleve memento mori dial, circa 1730. Gilt brass full plate movement with finely pierced and engraved balance cock decorated with acanthus leaf scrolling and grotesque, silver Arabic regulation, verge escapement and fusee, back plate raised above four cup and cover pillars, movement possibly continental in origin.
Silver champleve dial with black Roman numerals bordered by Arabic divisions at five-minute intervals, inner dial bares skull and crossbones inside garter reading Watch & Pray For You Know Not the Hour, blue steel beetle and poker hands.
Plain polished inner and outer cases, movement signed c. Pingford, London.
