Gold half hunter pocket watch by E. J. Dent, Watchmaker to the Queen

A very fine English half hunter cased pocket watch with a rare black enamel dial, circa 1850. The watch boasts an engine turned 18 Carat gold case with inlaid enamel Roman numerals, a reeded band, pushback and the case maker’s punch mark AN (Alexis Nicole of Nicole & Norbier, entered 1 May 1865). Its black enamel dial features radial Roman hours, auxiliary seconds at 9 and arrow shaped hands. The watch is equipped with a 3/4 plate movement, which is frosted, gilt, chatoned, signed, numbered, chain/fusee, duplex escapement, gold screw compensation balance and a florally hand engraved balance cock.
