Silver quarter repeating verge by William Tomlinson

A fine, very early English silver quarter repeating verge watch, circa 1710. Push pendant quarter repeating on a bell in the back of the case, full plate fire gilt movement, fusee movement, pierced and engraved cock, silver regulator disc, pierced and engraved plate for the silver regulator disc, plain three arm steel balance, blue steel spiral hairspring. Later white enamel dial with Roman and Arabic numerals, pierced gilt hands. Pierced and engraved case, silver push pendant and bow.

William Tomlinson was born in Crosmoore near Preston, Lancashire. He worked in London from 1699 till 1745 and was a member of the Clockmakers Company from 1699. William Tomlinson became a master on September 29, 1733. He worked at The Dial & Three Crowns, Birchin Lane and the Royal Exchange. Tomlinson trained Devereux Bowly as a watchmaker. He died in 1750.
