An English rare pair cased verge pocket watch with day and night indicator, circa 1690. Full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, applied engraved ornaments, signed, chain/fusee, tulip movement pillars, verge escapement, three arm steel balance, florally engraved, pierced balance cock. Silver champlevé dial with retrograde Roman numerals for diurnal and nocturnal hours, the bottom half of the dial with mascaron and signature shield, the upper half with aperture for sun and moon indication, engraved moon, stars and sun on a blued steel disc, blued steel hand. Brass and silver outer case with tortoiseshell, applied stud decoration and large lateral hinge, silver inner case with engraved monogram and crown, casemaker’s punchmark RB.
