Verge pair cased pocket watch by Gabriel-Joseph Moillet
–
An English silver calendar watch with champlevé dial from the second quarter of the 18th century.
The watch features a full plate gilded brass and partly blued movement, fusee and chain with worm and wheel barrel setup between the plates, and winding through the back. The balance cock is pierced and engraved with an erotic scene, and there is a silver regulator disc. The silver champlevé dial has Roman radial hours, half-hour markers, outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals, rectangular date aperture at XII, and blued steel hands. The plain silver polished cases are simple yet elegant. The watch is signed on an applied blued steel plate on the top plate of the movement, below the cock: MOILLET, LONDON. Inside the back of the case, there is a marking: JMM within a rectangle.
