Silver verge with alarm, possibly by Nicolas Massy or Henry Massy
–
An English pair cased single handed verge pocket watch with alarm, circa 1695. This exquisite timepiece boasts a brass and steel full plate movement with chain/fusee, featuring a pierced and florally engraved barrel for the alarm. The conical baluster movement pillars and three arm brass balance add to the intricate design, while the silver regulation disc and pierced and florally engraved balance bridge showcase the attention to detail. The silver champlevé dial features inlaid radial Roman hours, an outer minutes track, and fifteen minutes markers, with a central rotating alarm disc and blued single hand.
–
The watch has two cases: an inner polished silver case and an outer silver case with an openwork border and a repoussé reverse side with very fine decorated engravings. The signature on the movement indicates it was made by Massy London. The outer case bears a monogram that could be CB or BC. The inner case is marked with the letters AL in an incuse fashion, which is the mark for Adam and Lewis Roumeau.
