Silver open faced verge pocket watch

A very rare English pair cased verge pocket watch with day and night indicator, circa 1690. Full plate movement, keywind, firegilt, applied engraved ornaments, signed, chain/fusee, tulip movement pillars, verge escapement, three arm steel balance, florally engraved, pierced balance cock. Silver champlevé dial with retrograde Roman numerals for diurnal and nocturnal hours, the bottom half of the dial with engraved birds, scrolled foliage and mascaron, the upper half with aperture for sun and moon indication, engraved moon, stars and sun on a blued steel disc, blued steel hand. Plain silver outer case, large lateral hinge, casemaker’s punchmark Joseph Bird 1697.
