An important and technically very interesting English pair cased pocket watch chronometer circa 1796-1811
18 carat gold pink gold later pair case with matching London hallmarks and casemaker’s punch MRM (Martin Matthews); technically very interesting English chronometer movement with special construction – which has both design features of Earnshaw and Arnold – , detent escapement in type of Earnshaw, cylindrical hairspring, diamond endstone, Z-balance in manner of Arnold and the main plate signed and numbered; signed and numbered white enamel dial with Roman hours, sunk subsidiary dial with Arabic seconds and golden hands.
This important collector’s watch, which is technically extremely interesting for chronometer collectors, is in excellent condition.

Paul Philip Barraud (*1750 – †1820) was a very well-known English watchmaker, who made chronometer in Cornhill in the city of London. In 1796 he became a member of the Clockmakers Company and became a master in 1810/1811. He made chronometer in manner of Thomas Mudge firstly but then switched to the more successful designs by John Arnold and Thomas Earnshaw.
