This pocket chronometer is part of the so-called “Earnshaw Series”, a number of pocket chronometers that are very likely to have been created by Thomas Earnshaw. They are all fitted with a mechanism only Earnshaw used at the time: this number 10/5342 as well as five other known watches with the numbers 7/5227, 13/5345, 28/ 5812, 31/5815 and 32/5816 all use the so-called “sugar tongs” temperature compensation.

Signed: Barraud, Cornhill, London
