Silver open faced pocket watch by French Royal Exchange
–
An English triple-cased verge pocket watch with tortoiseshell and stud decoration on the outer case, made for the Ottoman market, circa 1765. This exquisite timepiece boasts a variety of impressive features. The outer case is crafted from silver and intricately engraved, with a large lateral hinge for easy opening. The inner case is polished to a high shine and bears the mark of the esteemed case maker WCS. The dial is signed, features Ottoman numerals arranged in a radial pattern, and elegant Poker and beetle hands. The movement is a full plate design, frosted and gilt with applied floral decorations. Costly ornamented pierced movement pillars complement the chain/fusee mechanism, while the verge escapement ensures accuracy. The three-arm steel balance is finely engraved and pierced, with a delicate floral design adorning the balance cock. Finally, the tortoiseshell-covered protection case adds more sophistication to this impressive timepiece.
