An English silver pair cased verge with an unusual form of a windmill automaton, Hallmarked Birmingham 1831. Full plate fusee movement with round pillars, pierced and engraved round cock, blue steel regulator on top plate below the plain three-arm steel balance. Rare polychrome enamel dial depicting a church on the left indicating the time on a clock in the tower, Roman numerals, and gilt hands. On the right a windmill, the engraved gold sails rotating clockwise. Matching pair cases, silver oval pendant and bow. Maker’s mark J.W. in a rectangle.
