Gold pocket watch

A rare 18 carat yellow gold watch, accompanied by an associated 18 carat yellow gold chain and steel key and made by James Ritchie & Son, Edinburgh, Circa 1855.
Four body, polished and hinged movement case with reeded case band and dedication on the cuvette. Gold dial with applied pink gold radial stylized Roman numerals, the centre with floral decoration in pink and green gold, pink gold outer minute track and blued steel trident.
Gilt full plate movement with engraved balance cock, three arm steel balance and an index regulator.
Signed on the movement.

The engraving on the cuvette reads ‘Presented to Margaret Ritchie By her Father November 1855’ and is given the unusual name of the watchmaker. It is safe to assume that this watch was made by James Ritchie and given to his daughter.
