Gold open faced verge watch with striking mechanism

A fine French gold, key winding, open faced pocket watch with quarter repeating striking mechanism, made by Frères Castel in Paris, circa mid 18th century. This watch features a signed mechanical movement with key winding, a verge escapement, a chased and pierced cock, a spiral balance, a spindle and chain, and a setting disc. It has a white enamel dial with Roman numerals for the hours and Arabic numerals for the minutes, a minute track, a square winding mechanism at 2 o’clock, and Louis XV style hands. The plain polished gold Louis XV case has a round on the hinge, a smooth back, and bears the IT master mark.
