Gold and enamel open faced quarter repeater by Chatenay

A very fine French 18 carat gold Louis XV gold/enamel verge watch with multi-coloured case decoration, enamel scene and quarter repeating à toc, by Chatenay a Versaille, around 1780. Gilt full plate movement, round pillars, fusee and chain, verge escapement, three armed brass balance, flat balance spring, pierced and engraved foliate balance cock with steel endplate, silver regulation dial, repeating with two hammers on the case, activated by pushing the pendant.
White enamel dial with Roman numerals, outer minute track, large five-minute numerals and pierced foliate gilt hands. Case decorated with a finely painted enamel oval scene to the back depicting a lady in a garden. Dial and movement signed.
