A fine, French single handed “Oignon” verge pocket watch with alarm, circa 1710. Silver case with engraved and chased décor, rear bell and large lateral hinge. Florally engraved bezel the backside with open work border, decorated with foliage and mythological birds and the central cartouche with instruments of war. Silver, champlevé dial with inlaid radial Roman hours, central alarm disc with Arabic numerals and arrow shaped single hand. Fine full plate movement, key wind, fire gilt and signed, chain/fusee, engraved barrel for alarm, Egyptian movement pillars, one hammer, three arm iron balance and a large engraved and florally pierced balance bridge.

Charles Voisin (1685-1761) Charles Voisin, who was born in Paris in 1685, became a master clockmaker in 1710. After working at the Rue de Sevres for some time he moved to the Rue Dauphine in 1713. Voisin was married twice; he was the father of nine children and two of them became master clockmakers too. Charles Voisin handed his business over to his second son Antoine Henry in 1760 and died in Paris early in 1761.
