Very fine verge watch with stones and pearls
–
A very fine gold and enamel verge watch with stones and pearls, made by Daniel Vaucher in Paris, France, circa 1780. The extremely magnificent open faced case is crafted from 18 Carat gold and enamel, set with half pearls and coloured stones on both sides and an enamel magnifier painting on the back. The white enamel dial has Arabic fie minute- and Roman hour numerals, unusual hands and has an original set of coloured stones and half pearls, matching the case. The movement has a verge escapement and the watch comes with a delicate gold chain with two antique gold keys set with coral.
Dial and movement are signed.

Daniel Vaucher
Daniel Vaucher was born in Fleurier and moved to Paris in 1760, where he became a master watchmaker. His wife and six children stayed in Fleurier and later came to Paris. Jonas-Frédéric Vaucher, Jean-Henri-David Vaucher, François Vaucher, Jean-Jacques Vaucher, Samuel Vaucher and daughter Isabelle-Salomé Vaucher became watchmakers. Outstanding watches from this family were mostly signed “Vauchez en la Cité”. This may not be a “z” but an “r”.
