Gold and enamel watch with chatelaine

A large gold and enamel verge pocket watch with original matching chatelaine made by Henri Voisin in Paris, France, circa 1780. The numbered open faced case of this watch was crafted from 18 carat gold and has Paris gold punches and magnificent gold inlays in dark blue engine turned enamel with a protective lacquer. The white enamel dial has Arabic fifteen minute and hour numerals and pink gold hands. The numbered movement has a verge escapement and the watch comes with a matching chatelaine with enamel cartouches in the same decoration, a matching original key, an original signet and at the top of the chatelaine an oval enamel plaque with very fine painting and representation of a putto. Dial and movement signed.

Henri Voisin was a well known Parisian watchmaker (1773-1803). He took the business from his father, clockmaker Charles Voisin (1685-1761) in 1760. His real name was Antoine-Henry Voisin, but he signed his works Henry Voisin.
