An exceptional French silver open faced pocket chronometer, circa 1880. Probably a graduate’s piece with spring detent escapement according to Thomas Earnshaw. Gilt frosted full plate movement, keywound, chain/fusee, bimetallic chronometer balance with three cylindrical weights and six gold screws, freesprung blued helical balance spring, chatoned sapphire endstone on balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, auxiliary seconds and blued Breguet hands. Plain case, tiered, glazed to the back, slightly domed, rose gold pendant, bow, hinges and shackle.
