–
A fine French 18 carat yellow gold open faced chronometer pocket watch, circa 1890. This watch has a mechanical crown winding movement featuring frosted gilt bridges, a precision lever escapement, a bimetallic compensation balance with timing screws, and an index regulator marked with the French terms Avance and Retard, and SGDG. The white enamel dial shows black Roman numerals for the hours, outer black Arabic numerals at five minute intervals, an outer railway minute track, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and rose gold Louis XV style hands. The timepiece is housed in an 18 carat yellow gold open faced case with a polished bezel, a smooth polished back cover, a fluted winding crown, and a round suspension bow. The inner dust cover gold cuvette is officially engraved Chronometre Bulletin de marche Observatoire Besançon, and bearing a horsehead hallmark.
