An impressive Swiss 18 carat white gold, diamond and ruby set open faced pocket watch with perpetual calendar, moon phases and moon age made by Audemars Piguet in Le Brassus, circa 1994. The case is embellished with 85 brilliant cut diamonds and 52 baguette cut rubies with a total of 18.2 carats, the front bezel is set with diamonds and features Roman, ruby set, hour markers (12, 3, 6 and 9), a further diamond set bow, screwed on back, pull-out strut piece and ruby cabochon set crown. The diamond set dial with ruby indexes, blue subsidiary dials for the months and leap year at 12 o’clock, the days of the week at 9, date indication at 3, auxiliary seconds with concentric phases of the moon and moon age at 6, and blued diamond/kite hands. Rhodium plated movement with a straight line lever escapement, monometallic compensation balance and self compensating blued steel Breguet balance spring. Dial signed, case and movement signed and numbered.

This masterpiece is an example of supreme skill and craftsmanship, not only with a view to the technical aspects but also the excellently executed work of the goldsmith and jeweller.

 

It is perfect for travelling because a concealed hinge in the bow can be used as a stand for the watch, so that it serves as a table clock.
