Gold watch with ruby cylinder escapement

A very fine and extremely rare, 18K gold small French, répétition médaillon, jump hours, quarter repeating pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement, circa 1817. With a short gold Breguet chain and ratchet key. Accompanied by an original fitted box. Forme quatre baguettes by Tavernier (master mark), engine-turned. Gold cuvette with apertures for winding and regulation. Matte silver dial, engine-turned, brushed chapter ring with radial Roman numerals, outer minute chapter with dot indexes. Gold Breguet hands.

A frosted gilt movement, jewelled train, standing barrel, overhanging ruby cylinder escapement, plain three-arm gold balance with parachute on the top pivot, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator, all-or-nothing repeating with a single hammer on one gong activated by a pull-and-twist piston in the pendant. Dial and cuvette signed.
