A large and very fine French 18K gold, enamel and pearl-set pair-cased verge pocket watch with additional protective case, circa 1700. Gilt full plate movement, verge escapement. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute divisions and blued steel Breguet hands. The case back with a polychrome enamel scene depicting a shepherdess in the front, in the background a castle view, on both sides set with half-pearls, punched FM probably for Frères Melly. Gold-coloured, unpunched protective case. Case punched and numbered, movement numbered.
