A French brass two day marine chronometer with power reserve indicator, circa 1860.
A mahogany box with external brass handles, glazed upper section, brass bowl in gimballed suspension. Frosted and silvered dial with Roman numerals, subsidiary seconds, 49 hour power reserve sector and gilt spade hands. Frosted gilt brass, full plate movement with recess for the mainspring barrel, cylindrical pillars, secured by screws, eleven jewels, reversed fusee and chain, Earnshaw spring detent escapement, cut bimetallic compensation balance, free sprung helical balance spring with terminal curves, two cylindrical temperature adjustment weights and four screws, two mean time adjustment nuts. Free sprung blued steel helical balance spring with terminal curves.
