Gold and enamel watch by Breguet
–
A French gold and enamel open faced pocket watch featuring a date display and centre seconds and the back adorned with an enamel portrait of a lady, circa 1800. This watch features a gilded full plate movement with a cylinder escapement, a pierced and engraved balance bridge, and a backplate signed Breguet A Paris. It boasts a white enamel dial with black Arabic hour numerals, an inner Arabic calendar chapter, gold hands, a gold serpentine calendar hand, and a winding aperture on the front. The gold case is adorned on the back with a polychrome enamel portrait, inspired by the style of Van Dyck, depicting a lady wearing a pearl necklace, earrings, and strands of pearls in her hair.

The dial has a very small crack between 4 and 5 on the outer edge and a fine hairline crack between 7 and 8. The movement is running smoothly. The case is free from dents but shows some areas of rubbing. There is a tiny repair on the top left hand side of the case behind the portrait, as well as some repairs on the back of the bow, indicated by soldering marks and a possible difference in the metal’s colour.
