A decorative Parisian gold enamel verge (spindle) pocket watch, Venus at the love altar, with original key, circa 1800-1850.
Full plate movement, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance. Enamel dial with Arabic radial hours, outer minutes track with fifteen minutes numerals, and hands beetle & poker hands. 18K gold and polychrome enamel case, with a finely painted enamel medallion in the centre of the back cover, of the highest quality. Venus is shown with a bowl and an amphora in his hands, walking to the love altar. The base of the altar is decorated with a gold pallion. The medallion is framed by a floral border made of two-tone gold.
