Gold open faced cylinder quarter repeater watch
–
A fine French 18 carat yellow gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch with matching chatelaine and keys, circa 1850. This watch has a mechanical key wound movement with a cylinder escapement and a quarter repeating complication that sounds the hours and quarters on demand. It includes a double brass cuvette executed in the Breguet style. The gold dial features guilloché surfaces, engraved Roman numerals marking the hours within a smooth chapter ring, an outer minute track, and blued steel hands set against an applied multicoloured gold floral centrepiece, all enclosed by a richly decorated applied multicoloured gold floral border of fine green and rose gold foliage along the outer rim.
–
The timepiece is housed in a round 18 carat solid yellow gold open faced case with a polished winding stem, a sturdy round suspension bow, and a reverse back cover decorated with an engine turned barleycorn guilloché pattern surrounding an unengraved central cartouche. The pocket watch is accompanied by a matching 18 carat yellow gold watch chatelaine weighing 11.45 g. with two attached winding keys and a suspension stamp signed AM.
