A large Swiss 14 carat gold quarter repeating chronograph keyless pocket watch, circa 1896. The cover and case back are engine turned, with on the cover, in the centre, an escutcheon. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, subsidiary seconds at 6 and gold decorative hands. Quarter repeater on two steel gongs by two hammers, activated by the single olive shaped push piece located on the case band at 6 o’clock, 1/5 second chronograph is activated by the single olive shaped push piece located on the case band at 2 o’clock. A gilded brass movement, going barrel, straight line lever escapement, cut bimetallic compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with terminal curve, polished steel index regulator, repeater work with silent centrifugal governor, chronograph work on the top plate.

Movement based on the Swiss invention patent No. 334, delivered on January 8, 1889, to Charles Barbezat-Baillot, Le Locle, for Perfectionnements apportés à la construction des mécanismes de répétition pour montres de poche de toutes dimensions (Improvements to the construction of the mechanisms of repetition for pocket watches of all sizes); this patent includes, in particular, the centrifugal force regulator to regulate the speed of the repetition mechanism. Movement based on the Swiss invention patent No. 13 244, delivered on November 18, 1896, to Charles Barbezat-Baillot, Le Locle, for a Push-piece for watches.
