Gold hunting cased cylinder watch

An extremely fine and very rare French, 18K gold “simple medaillon à tact” hunting cased pocket watch with ruby cylinder escapement, circa 1837. With a short gold chain and gold double-ended male and female key. Accompanied a period box and certificate. Sold to a member of an important banking family for 1,600 Francs.

A flat engine-turned band with 12-hour pins, including the pendant for the à tact, the covers engine-turned, the front cover with à tact hand. Gold cuvette with apertures for winding and regulation. White enamel dial with Breguet numerals, outer five minute, quarter-hour and half-hour track, secret signature below 12. Single blued steel hand. A frosted gilt movement, souscription calibre, wound from the back only, five wheel train, ruby cylinder escapement mounted below the dial, gold three-arm balance, the top pivot with pare-chute, the balance and escape wheels pivots jewelled, blued steel flat balance spring, blued steel index regulator. Dial and cuvette signed, case numbered.
