Gold, enamel watch with matching chatelaine
–
A decorative French 18-carat gold enamel verge pocket watch with corresponding gold enamel chatelaine, circa 1800.
The back of this fine timepiece is decorated with a scene of a young lady in vintage garments at an altar of love that is decorated with a portrait: holding roses in her hands, she walks towards the altar where a small Cupid stands. The painting is on a background of translucent cobalt blue enamel on an engine-turned ground; the engraved case band is made of two-coloured gold. The dial is enamel with radial Roman numerals, Arabic outer five-minute track and gold Poker & Beetle hands. And the fire gilt full plate movement is keywind, with chain/fusee, solid movement pillars, three-arm brass balance and engraved pierced balance bridge.
