–
A fine gold enamel French pocket watch studded with half pearls, with corresponding chatelaine, circa 1800.
This pocket watch is in excellent condition and shows an exceptionally fine enamel painting on its back. Diana, the goddess of the hunt, is portrayed on a bright azure ground; she holds her bow and wears a crescent moon in her hair. The medallion is framed by a row of half pearls that continues on the front. The chatelaine has three parts and is decorated with four opaque light blue enamel plaques. On the chain are a key, a signet and a signet with agate ornamentation showing the carved portrait of a lady.
Gold, gilt-brass, polychrome enamel case with case maker’s punch mark SG. Signed, white enamel dial with Arabic numerals and spade hands. Signed, gilt full plate verge movement, keywind, chain/fusee, three-arm brass balance, and pierced and engraved balance bridge. The chatelaine decorated with a lady receiving a letter from a young page on a similarly blue background.
