Gold and enamel open faced watch

A fine and rare Swiss 20K gold and enamel open faced quarter repeating à toc verge pocket watch, circa 1779. Calm Harbor by Terroux l’Aîné. Louis XV case, foliate chased bezel and border, the back with a very finely painted on enamel scene of ships moored and fishermen at the shoreline, deep blue guilloché enamel border and turquoise and beaded white enamel outer border, paste-set thumb-piece.

 

White enamel dial, radial Roman numerals, outer minute dot divisions and Arabic five-minute numerals, gold spade hands. Hinged gilt-brass full plate movement with conical pillars, fusee with chain, verge escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, pierced and chased foliate gilt-brass continental cock with polished steel end-plate, silver regulation dial, hand and scale for adjusting the repeating speed, repeating on the case with two hammers activated by depressing the pendant. Dial and movement signed.
