Gold open faced verge pocket watch

A French gold key winding, quarter repeating pocket watch with verge escapement, made by Pierre Louis Duchemin in Paris, circa the Early 19th century. This watch features a signed mechanical movement with key winding, verge escapement, spiral balance, and a two hammer gong chime. The midnight blue enamel dial has oak leaf paillons at the centre, Roman numerals on white enamel cartouches, a minute track, and Louis XV style hands. The gold round hinge case bears the FV master mark inside, with a fully guilloché back and case middle, a signed and numbered gold cuvette, and a double square winding mechanism.

Pierre Louis Duchemin was a Parisian watchmaker in the 1770s. In addition to his craft, he served as guardian to Anne Le Bordie, an adult deaf and mute from birth, and to the minor Louis François Le Bordie.
