Pierre Louis (Louis) Berthoud (1754-1813)
Pierre Louis (Louis) Berthoud began his apprenticeship with his father Pierre (1740-1767) at the early age of twelve. Such was his outstanding talent that his uncle Ferdinand Berthoud (1727-1807) took him to Paris, where Louis followed his uncle as Horloger de la Marine in 1807; upon his death in 1813 Motel – who had been his apprentice – took over the position. Motel was later succeeded by his nephews Louis and Charles Auguste.
