Gentleman’s pair cased gold enamel pocket watch

A gentleman’s fine quarter repeating pair cased gold enamel pocket watch with quarter hour self strike – “Grande Sonnerie”, circa 1780.
Copper case, gilt, à goutte, engraved edges, large lateral hinge. Inner case is 18K gold, engraved band decorated with opaque white and translucent blue enamelled foliate decor, the back cover costly engine turned and translucent blue enamelled, in the centre a cartouche with a polychrome translucid enamel blossom against a golden ground framed by a white bead patterned border, which is repeated at the outer edge, rear bell, pusher for repetition via pendant, lateral lever to set strike/ not strike for striking train, large lateral hinge. Enamel dial, radial Roman hours, Louis XVI hands. Full plate movement, regilt, signed, chain/fusee, 2 barrels, 2 hammer, solid movement pillars, three arm brass balance, cylinder escapement, engraved, pierced balance bridge.
