Gold and enamel open faced verge by LeRoy & Fils

An impressive French gold and enamel open faced gentleman’s pocket watch studded with half pearls, circa 1840.
The case back is decorated with a finely painted enamel miniature on a background of an engine-turned wave pattern and translucent cobalt blue enamel showing two girls, a boy and a dog playing at a lake, the bezel half pearl-set on both sides, case maker’s punch mark R. Signed white enamel dial with Arabic numerals and a gold hand. Later bridge movement with cylinder escapement and three-arm brass balance.

This remarkable pocket watch was created by the famous maker LeRoy & Fils and dates back to the period just after the Napoleonic wars. Judging from its condition the watch must have been kept well out of harm’s way at all times.
