Metal pocket watch with polychrome enamel painting
–
A French metal and enamel verge pocket watch made for the Ottoman market, circa 1805.
Full plate movement with a gilt finish featuring a verge escapement, engraved balance cock, and silver regulator plate. The watch boasts a white enamel dial with Ottoman characters, an outer minute track, and Breguet-style hands. The case is made of metal and adorned with a polychrome enamel painted scene, with the bezel and back decorated in gold on an enamel green background.
While the watch is signed Breguet on the movement and inner case, it is believed to be the work of an imitator. The dial also bears the Breguet signature in Turkish characters. The dust cover is marked with the signature Breguet in script, and the watch is numbered 4462. The interior dust cover is stamped with the number 31307.
