A large, heavy, one handed, pair cased French verge pocket watch with alarm circa 1690. The watch consists of two cases. The outer case is gilt brass, and coated with ray skin. It is adorned with decoration studs and features a large lateral hinge. The silver inner case has sound holes, a rear bell, and another large lateral hinge. The silver champlevé dial showcases inlaid radial Roman hour numerals, a central alarm disc with Arabic numerals, and an iron hand. The movement is a fine, keywind mechanism with a fire gilt finish. It is signed and features a plate design, chain/fusee system, a florally engraved barrel, one hammer, Egyptian movement pillars, a large three-arm brass balance, a finely engraved pierced balance bridge, and decorations depicting mythical creatures.
