A French 18 carat gold, enamel and diamond set open faced watch with quarter repeater with the possibility for à tact and à toc, matching its chatelaine also in gold enamel, diamonds and in its original red morocco case, circa 1780. Signed full plate in gilded brass movement with key winding and verge escapement, fusee and chain with Harrison type holding force, verge escapement, three arm balance spring, pierced and engraved continental cock, Le Roy type repeater system, repeater on bell by pressing the pendant, signed on the plate Lépine à Paris, Hger du Roy à Paris.
White enamel dial with numerals Roman numerals for the hours, set with diamonds for the half-hour division, Arabic numerals for the five minutes, stylized hands set with diamonds, opening for the winding square, railway minute track, signed Lépine à Paris, Hger du Roy à Paris
18 Carat round case, decorated on the back with translucent orange enamel on guilloché with diamond rosette and white enamel dots resembling graduated pearls, bezel set with diamonds, triggering of the chime on the pendant with slide on the case band for the function of the à toc mechanism.

Jean-Antoine Lépine (1720 – 1814)
Jean-Antoine Lépine, son of Jean “Le Mécanicien du Roi”, was born on November 18, 1720 in Challex, a small village a few kilometers west of Geneva. After working for a while at Decrose, in Grand Saconnex, in the suburbs of Geneva, he arrived in Paris in 1744.
