Gold, enamel, and diamond set verge watch by Lépine
–
A French gold and enamel quarter repeating verge watch with chatelaine, circa 1780. The watch features a gilded full plate movement with verge escapement, a pierced and engraved balance bridge, fusee and chain, repeating on a bell, and is signed Lepine à Paris. The white enamel dial includes Roman numerals, an Arabic outer track, and applied half hour markers, also signed Lepine A Paris.

The gold case is adorned with a polychrome enamel panel on the back depicting a classical female figure, bordered by simulated green enamel, and embellished with applied foliate swags accented with diamonds. The bezel, stem, and bow are set with diamonds. Additionally, it includes a gold chatelaine featuring a polychrome enamel panel of a female in a garden landscape, with four pendant chains ending in a key, breloques, and a seal. It comes with a matching presentation case.

The movement is functioning with the running and repeating mechanism, but the quarters are not striking accurately. The dial is in good condition. The case has minor scratches on the top of the polychrome enamel panel, with chips along the enamel border. The chatelaine shows extensive enamel damage and a later added gold pin is present.
