Pink gold open faced quarter repeating watch by Breguet et Fils
–
A French quarter repeating pink gold open faced pocket watch with blue enamel astrological symbols, circa 1800 & later. Gilded movement with skeletonised bridges adorned with scrolling foliage engravings, verge escapement, polished flat steel balance, semicircular balance cock, fusee and chain mechanism, and two steel hammers striking a coiled gong. Pink gold dial featuring blue enamel Roman numerals, a black enamel star motif at the centre, and a banner inscribed with the signature Breguet et Fils. Later pink gold case with an engine turned back and polished edge showcasing restored zodiac signs in translucent blue guilloché enamel, gilt metal cuvette, gold plunge pendant, and bow. The inside back is numbered 17412 and bears a casemaker’s stamp, likely JE, with a pellet in between.

The dial has been refreshed, showing light scuffs and scratches. The black star at the centre and the black banding have been partially restored using soft enamel. The movement is operational and repeating, though the repetition is slightly sluggish and may benefit from cleaning and servicing. The case features a dent on the band at 6 o’clock and a split on the interior back at 7 o’clock. The blue enamel zodiac symbols have been restored, but the refilling is uneven and appears overly thick, obscuring the engine turned decoration beneath. Additionally, the gilt metal cuvette does not align properly with the winding square on the movement.
