A historically important half hunter cased watch with minute repeater made by the German court watchmaker Johannes Hartmann in Berlin, Germany, circa 1916. This numbered watch, crafted from 14 carat gold, has the coat of arms of Duke Viktor von Ratibor on the back lid and a gift dedication on the inside back lid: In dankbarer Erinnerung an gemeinsame Arbeit, gift to Edmund von Gehren 1916 (In grateful memory of our joint work, gift to Edmund von Gehren 1916). The white enamel dial has black Arabic hours, an outer minute track, red Arabic five minute numerals, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. The very fine glazed movement has a lever escapement and a minute repeater.
The cuvette is signed.
