Gold and enamel open faced cylinder watch

A very fine, thin French 18 carat gold and enamel open faced cylinder pocket watch, circa 1800. The Altar of Love by Guex & Noll. The case rim with white and blue enamel and gold paillon decoration, the back with a finely painted enamel scene of two young ladies holding a garland of flowers and paying tribute to the altar of love on a royal blue guilloché enamel ground.

White enamel dial with upright Arabic numerals, outer minute divisions and Arabic quarter-hour numerals, gold skeletonized hands. Hinged gilt-brass movement, half-plate cut away for the fusee and barrel secured by a semi-circular bridge, fusee with chain, cylinder escapement, plain brass three-arm balance, flat balance spring, gilt-brass continental cock with polished steel end-piece. Dial and movement signed.
