Flat Art Deco dress watch by Willi Fritsch
–
A historically interesting German platinum dress watch in chronometer quality, circa 1935. The pocket watch showcases a sleek platinum case with a crown reminiscent of Cartier watches. Inside the case is a dedication that reads: Willi Fritsch zur Erinnerung an den 10. Fritsch-Harvey Film, Der Vorstand der UFA (Willi Fritsch in memory of the 10th Fritsch-Harvey film, The Board of UFA). The watch features a Breguet silver dial with platinum numerals, an outer minutes track, and a subsidiary dial for seconds. The hands are likely platinum, and the watch is signed Chronometre Borel. A high-quality lever movement with Geneva stripes powers it. Accompanying the watch is a matching 18K white gold watch chain, approximately 42cm long, which remains in excellent condition.

This very fine dress watch was a gift from UFA to the famous actor Willi Fritsch and was in the family’s possession until 2022. Willy Fritsch (1901-1973) made various films with Lilian Harvey from 1929-1933. They thus became popular movie stars and the dream couple of German cinema.
