Bakelite deck chronometer
–
A marine chronometer with the original winding key made by A. Lange & Söhne in Glashütte, Germany, circa 1940. This chronometer is housed in a durable, black bakelite case set within its original glazed wooden box, which features carrying handles on both sides and a gimbal suspension system to keep the timepiece level during maritime use. The numbered, silvered dial features bold Arabic hour numerals, an outer minute track, subsidiary seconds 6 o’clock, a power reserve indicator at 12 and gold spade hands. The high precision movement is fitted with a spring detent chronometer escapement, helical hairspring, chronometer balance and a solid movement holder, all components chosen for maximum accuracy and reliability at sea.
The dial and movement are signed and have matching numbers.
