An important German pocket watch of museum quality with digital jumping hours and minutes manufactured in quality 1A, circa 1887, made for the Spanish market. The watch case is made of 18K rose gold and features intricate engravings. The silver dial has apertures for the hours and minutes and a subsidiary dial for the seconds. Dürrstein & Co. developed a mechanism for a jumping indication that was inspired by IWC’s jump hour watches, which used Joseph Pallweber’s patented design. However, the difference in Dürrstein & Co.’s mechanism is the second barrel that supplies the impulse for the discs with numerals. Lange & Söhne produced very few watches of this kind, and Martin Huber’s book Die Lange-Liste lists only six such watches sold between 1887 and 1888. Our timepiece, with a reference number of 25706, is also illustrated and described on page 234 of Reinhard Meis’s book A. Lange & Söhne.
