Open faced keyless lever watch by Gebr. Eppner
–
A German gold, open faced, keyless lever watch with a cuvette featuring a portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm, accompanied by a gold fob, circa 1910. The watch features a frosted gilded 1/2 plate movement, signed Gebr. Eppner, Berlin, incorporating a lever escapement, bimetallic compensation balance, and an unusual precision regulation with a patent number. It boasts a two tone white enamel dial, also signed Gebr. Eppner, Berlin, showcasing Arabic numerals, an outer minute ring, recessed subsidiary seconds, and filigree hands. The case is made of Swiss 14 carat pink gold with polished covers, and the back is engraved with the arms of Kaiser Wilhelm. The pink gold cuvette has an applied green gold profile portrait of Kaiser Wilhelm. The fob is composed of a swivel mounted with three gold 20 mark coins, each dated 1888, featuring the profiles of Kaiser Wilhelm I, II, and Friedrich. The swivel is hinged and opens to reveal the backs of the coins, which are adorned with German eagles, an orb, and a cross, complemented by a short broad chain set with a diamond studded monogram.
